The Earlsdon Day Club - now closed
The Day Club held its final session on 13 December 2006, in the form of its final Christmas Dinner. Over recent years the numbers of people attending has fallen, and the number of volunteer helpers has also reduced, making it very difficult to carry on the work as originally envisaged.
However it is understood that everyone who has been attending recently are being cared for in other ways. In some respects the function of the Dayclub - that of giving a few hours of respite to carers - has been superseded by more well known and national organisations. The details below give an overview of the Dayclub's vision and activities:
The Earlsdon Day Club was formed in 1969 as a result of a bequest from a member of Hearsall Baptist Church, to be used for charitable purposes.
Organised by the local churches, it was decided that Earlsdon Methodist Church Hall was the most suitable venue.
Members met each Wednesday at 9.30a.m., starting with coffee and biscuits. There they could involve themselves in scrabble, chess, dominoes and card games. Lunch was cooked and served on the premises, and in the afternons there was usually some form of entertainment, culminating in tea before finishing at 3.30p.m.
