Week 72: 1.8.21

 Dear Earlsdon Methodist Friends,

Sunday  1st August, Worship at 10.30am will be led by Rev'd Ian Coates in the church building.  Booking is no longer required.  The service will also be zoomed for those who wish to view at home. (Details are on the attachment)

This week will be the first Sunday for many months that we are able to meet without COVID restrictions.  For some this will bring a sense of immense relief and be a cause for celebration; for others there will be anxiety.

We respect all these feelings as we gather for worship.

We published guidance in the newsletter last week and ask for your consideration.

Sunday 8th August, all-age worship will be led by Rev'd Stephen Willey.

Our Minister, Rev'd Doreen is on leave from 19th July to 7th August.  Urgent pastoral concerns during this period should go to Revd. Marcus Torchon, Circuit Superintendent.

We have heard the sad news that Tony Davis died on Saturday (24th July)  We hold June, Sheryl and all the family in our love and prayers, remembering Tony’s life and how much he meant to each one.

Church Family News:  A short August edition is attached.  It is hoped that we can have a fuller version of the church magazine for September.  We are needing your help with this please, so do send in your articles, ponderings and messages.  Thank you.

Wellspring is open on Thursdays and Fridays 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and Saturdays 9.00 a.m. until 12 noon.  The usual menu of drinks and light food is available, and the team will be happy to serve you.

Knitters meet in Wellspring on Thursdays between 10am and 12 noon, supporting the church’s Prayer Shawl ministry.  If you are interested, please email this address, or contact Heather.

We share, attached, a reflection based on our meditation last Tuesday (27th) ‘Foundations, Walls and Borders’.

Looking Ahead

As we welcome all to worship in the church building on Sundays, it is time to reconsider how church news can be widely shared.  It is proposed that a few copies of the weekly newsletter could be printed for visitors to take, including an encouragement to join the email distribution list.  Attachments could be published on the website.  We aim to make information as accessible as possible with minimum use of paper and ink. Any helpful thoughts on this process are welcome. Thank you

Lois & Tim

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Currently we are not offering tea, coffee and biscuits after the service due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, but it is hoped we can re start soon.

Plan your journey:

Open Google Maps

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet off the back of church.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am, but when the music is led by our Worship Band, we have a few hymns &/or songs before the service starts. There is then a warm welcome from one of our Stewards. Church news & extra notices may also be given at this time. Our services are typically an hour long, with a mixture of hymns, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. One of our leaders will give the sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We finish with a final worship song before a final prayer is said. (Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.)

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, morning, afternoons and evenings.

Our groups include:-

  • Tuesday Prayer Lunch
  • Wednesday Fellowship
  • Wednesday Word
  • Dayspring Steel Band
  • Wellspring Café
  • Prayer Shawl Ministry
Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
We hope that whoever you are, you will feel at home at our church.

Best Wishes
