Developments 1995 - 2002

For many years we were aware that the church building, while dominating the centre of Earlsdon, had been very under-utilised. Its only use for many years was for Sunday services. At the same time the role of the Church in modern times was recognised as needing to be that of "outreach" - a body which only looks inward on itself can not (and does not deserve to) survive.

The problem was how to make such a building more functional - and how to find the resources to turn a vision into reality.

In 1995 an overall plan was drawn up, consisting of three principal phases. Phase 1, achieved in 1996, was as follows:

  • removal of the pews
  • replacement with comfortable seating
  • carpeting of floor area
  • sanctuary area raised to provide platform
  • provision of a removable communion rail
  • provision of radio microphone
  • addition of hearing loop
  • provision of sink/cupboard and working top at rear

As a result of this we were able to use variable seating arrangements for services, including seating "in the round", and also to provide coffee & biscuits both after the services and at other functions such as our regular concerts.

Phase 2, completed in September 2000, consisted of the following:

  • new glazed entrance on Albany Road/Earlsdon Avenue corner
  • provision of reception/coffee area accessed from new entrance
  • addition of toilet facilities (including disabled access)
  • access to balcony area (see phase 3)
  • flexible screen between reception area and main church area
  • glazing of old arched entrance to provide visiblity into the building
  • improvements to external paved areas, allowing disabled access
  • protection to windows on Earlsdon Avenue side of church

Phase 3, completed in summer 2002, comprised the following:

  • provision of 3 rooms on the balcony area
  • provision of a new emergency exit
  • extension of the Wellspring kitchen
  • stairlift access to balcony area

Since then a complete Audio Visual system has been installed in the church.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details below) for our Sunday Service starting at 10.30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are available after the service, please stay and have a chat.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled access toilet off the back of church.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am, but when the music is led by our Worship Band, we have a few hymns &/or songs before the service starts. There is then a warm welcome from one of our Stewards. Church news & extra notices may also be given at this time. Our services are typically an hour long, with a mixture of hymns, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. One of our leaders will give the sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We finish with a final worship song before a final prayer is said. (Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.)
